In December 2022, the Energy Efficiency Board of India (BEE) added mandatory energy efficiency certification products, including the following three:
(1) Freezer
On June 30, 2022, BEE issued a notice reminding that, from January 1, 2023, freezers will be converted from the original voluntary certification of energy efficiency to compulsory certification of energy efficiency, which will be mandatory since the earlier draft regulations were issued
Within six months of shipment, all refrigerator products must be labeled with the specified energy efficiency label.
(2) Water chiller
The BEE issued a notice on 31 October 2022 reminding that, from 1 January 2023, the voluntary certification for energy efficiency of chiller units will be transferred to compulsory certification for energy efficiency. According to the draft regulations published earlier, all chiller products must bear the specified energy efficiency label within six months after the implementation of the regulation.
(3) Light commercial air conditioning
BEE issued a notice on December 7, 2022, that the BEE voluntary certification for light commercial air conditioning was postponed from January 1, 2023 to mandatory certification on July 1, 2023, and the validity of the energy efficiency label was also extended to June 30, 2023.
For new applications submitted after 8 December 2022, a new energy efficiency label will be required, and the new certificate will be valid until 30 June 2023; For models certified before December 8, 2022, manufacturers who want to continue using the energy efficiency label through 2023 are required to submit to BEE a self-declaration for all models requiring the continued use of the energy efficiency label and attach the new energy efficiency label to the product.
BEE earlier published a draft regulation on energy efficiency labelling and display in light commercial air conditioners on August 24, 2022. The mandatory date of the regulation is currently to be determined. The draft says that all light commercial air conditioners must bear the required energy efficiency label within six months after the regulation becomes mandatory.
In the figure below, 11 products in the red box are mandatory energy efficiency labeling products and the rest are voluntary labeling products.
